Who works for the Commission

The Commission is led by a Commissioner. He is supported by assisting counsel, and a team of people.

The people working for the Commission have different backgrounds, cultures, experiences and skills. The Commission staff are all working to make Queensland safer for children and their families.

Paul Anastassiou KC

The Commission is led by The Honourable Paul Anastassiou KC, as Commissioner.

Mr Anastassiou is committed to justice and accountability, and hearing from young people and children in Queensland.

Mr Anastassiou is a very experienced lawyer and a former judge.

He has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Melbourne. Mr Anastassiou was admitted to legal practice in Victoria in 1985. He began his career as a solicitor with Phillips Fox & Masel (now DLA Piper), before joining the Victorian Bar in 1987 and taking silk in 2002. Mr Anastassiou is currently a member of the Victorian Bar. He has also held leadership positions, including President of the Victorian Bar.

Mr Anastassiou was appointed as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia in February 2019, and retired from the bench in 2022.

Robyn Sweet KC

Ms Sweet KC has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University. She has practised law for more than 20 years, commencing as a solicitor at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst Australia).

Ms Sweet was called to the Bar in 2007 and took silk in 2022. She has worked in all Australian States and Territories, and has chambers at the Inns of Court in North Quay, Brisbane.

Nathan Boyd

Mr Boyd holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Queensland. He was admitted to legal practice in Queensland in 2014. He commenced his career as a Judge’s Associate to Judge Paul Smith (as his Honour then was) in the District Court of Queensland.

Mr Boyd then practised as a solicitor with McGinness & Associates for 3 years, before commencing at the Queensland Bar in 2018.

Bianca Mendelson

Ms Mendelson was admitted as a solicitor in 2015 and called to the Bar in 2022. She practices mostly in employment, industrial, and regulatory matters.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the Queensland University of Technology.

Before coming to the Bar, Ms Mendelson was a solicitor for 7 years, including as a Senior Associate at a top-tier national firm, and has assisted government clients on significant investigations and reviews relating to industrial, safety and other governance matters.
